Lindsey Atwell

LMSW - Clinical Social Worker, ASW-G

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Family & Consumer Science and Addiction Science from Western Michigan University. My career began in the community, working with adolescents and young adults who were without housing. Of those, many would benefit from learning ways to cope with poverty, substance use, and strained family relationships. This experience, one that was largely comprised of witnessing incredible resilience and bravery on the part of these young adults, ignited my passion for people and the therapeutic process. That passion propelled me forward and I completed a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor.  After graduate school, I immersed myself in Hospice and Palliative Care. There, I learned how to further navigate complex and layered problems with compassion, and developed a philosophy that the most beneficial therapeutic alliance is one of teamwork and trust.

My treatment approach is strengths-based and integrative in nature, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and mindfulness practices. I believe that the work between therapist and consumer is collaborative, and that true collaboration hinges on a therapist's ability to remain attuned to their client(s). My areas of specialization with individuals and couples includes grief and loss, complicated grief counseling, caregiver strain, life transitions, chronic and/or life-limiting illness, conflict resolution, depression, and anxiety.
